26 Short Films

I’ve worked on both commissioned projects and personal ones. On the commissioned side, I’ve teamed up with organizations like the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Indonesia, Street Production Berlin, the Women Research Institute, United Evangelical Mission, Oxfam Indonesia, Publish What You Pay Indonesia, The Head Foundation and USAID. These collaborations have let me dive into meaningful projects and expand my experience.

4 Feature-length Documentary

I have produced and directed three feature-length documentaries, as well as produced a film by an emerging filmmaker. All of these films have been showcased at prestigious film festivals, including the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), DOK Leipzig, and the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. Furthermore, one of my documentaries was honored with a nomination for Best Documentary Feature at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

6,5 Million YouTube Views

I uploaded my first feature-length documentary, The Land Beneath the Fog, to YouTube during the pandemic. This observational film delves into the lives of two families living on a mountain hillside. To my surprise, it went viral and has garnered 6.5 million views since its release in 2020.

Awards

Throughout my career, I have been honored with four awards for my films. These include the Special Jury Prize at the Dubai International Film Festival, the Justin Louis Award at the Freedom Film Festival, Best Debut Documentary at the Almaty International Film Festival, and the Piala Citra for Best Short Documentary. These accolades reflect the recognition of my work underscore the impact of my storytelling in the industry.

The highest-grossing Documentary

In addition to my work as a producer and director, I am also an experienced editor. I edited a film titled Exile, which in 2024 became the highest-grossing documentary in Indonesian history.

Workshop

I didn’t go to film school, so I picked up filmmaking skills by diving into various workshops, both locally and internationally. I had the chance to join some amazing programs like Berlinale Talents, IDFA Academy, and Tokyo Talents, which really helped me learn the ropes and connect with other filmmakers along the way.

Supporter

My film has been supported by several prominent organizations, including the Ford Foundation, Goethe-Institut Indonesia, DMZ Film Fund, and the Jakarta Arts Council. Their backing has been instrumental in bringing my project to fruition and enhancing its impact.

18 Years of Experience

Hi, I’m Shalahuddin Siregar, but you can call me Udin. I’ve always been into storytelling, even though my parents pushed me towards accounting. I did get that accounting degree, but I soon switched to filmmaking—it felt like the right fit. Film lets me dive into stories and emotions in a way that grabs people. It's a powerful tool for sharing ideas and connecting with an audience on a deeper level.
